The Ireland Youth team finished second overall to Wales in the Under-18 Triple Crown tournament, despite losing narrowly to England at Murrayfield. Ireland, in total control for most of the first half, led 6-0 at halftime through two Frank Lynch penalty goals.

Six minutes after the interval, England's full back Martin Armstrong crossed for a try, before Lynch landed his third penalty. Another try by wing Glen Cooper put England ahead for the first time, but Lynch's fourth penalty goal 12 minutes from the end restored Ireland's lead.
