THE Ireland team to meet England in the Five Nations championship at Twickenham on Saturday week will not, as anticipated, be announced this morning. The Ireland selectors met last night, but decided to defer announcing the team until 8.0 p.m. tomorrow evening.
One of the reasons is a doubt, concerning centre Jonathan Bell. He had been due to play for East Midlands against the Barbarians in Northampton yesterday, but failed to do so. Kurt McQuilkin, who was on the bench against Wales last Saturday and played for the Barbarians yesterday, is also carrying an injury.
The selectors did not want to announce a side and then have to make an alteration. The A team to meet England tomorrow week is also due to be announced tomorrow night.
