A defiant 57 from Brian Dunlop and superb bowling by Dwayne McGerrigle with five for 26 were not sufficient to save Ireland Under-19 from a two-wicket defeat by Denmark in their opening Youth World Cup match at CBC High School in Johannesburg yesterday. Ireland were put into bat, and lost the first three wickets for only 12 runs, before Dunlop and Neil Anderson put on 62 for the 8th wicket.

Denmark lost their first three batsmen for 13 runs, and later were reeling on 117 for eight, but an unbeaten ninth wicket stand of 44 saw them home. Ireland must beat Sri Lanka today to have any chance of progressing.
