LEINSTER COLLEGES SENIOR FOOTBALL A/Moate CS 2-13 St Joseph's Rochfortbridge 1-3:MOATE COMMUNITY School's comprehensive win over St Joseph's, Rochfortbridge, at Hogan Park, Moate, yesterday further cemented their reputation as one of the leading contenders for provincial honours.
Moate CS built up a seven-point lead by half-time, with Cian Bradley and Niall O’Brien showing great accuracy from frees.
St Joseph’s were handed a lifeline two minutes into the second half when a high ball from Shane Murtagh was fumbled into the net by Moate midfielder Patrick Holloway but three more frees from Bradley and O’Brien restored Moate’s substantial lead.
Moate’s progress was assured when O’Brien blasted to the net in the 47th minute, while wing back John Rock added further gloss to the scoreline at the death when he cut through the defence and finished emphatically.
