Leinster MFC Longford 2-12 Wexford 1-7:TRAILING BY 1-5 to 1-3 at the break, Longford produced a strong second-half display to score a comprehensive win over Wexford at Pearse Park on Saturday. The midland side will be at home again in the next round against Carlow.
Thanks to a goal from James McGivney in the 18th minute, Longford led by 1-3 to 0-1 and appeared to be in control but Wexford staged a determined comeback to dominate the remainder of the first half, scoring 1-4 without reply.
Seán Ring got the vital touch for a goal in the 20th minute but Wexford struggled against the wind in the second half, managing just two points late on, and Longford gradually pulled away to win in fairly emphatic fashion.
The killer blow was struck when Mark Hughes fired home the second goal for the home side in the closing stages of the game.
