RICHARD HUGHES has accepted an offer to ride as stable jockey to Hong Kong trainer Andy Leung from September. The agreement is subject to the seal of the approval of the licensing committee of the Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC). However, informed sources suggest that this will prove a mere formality for the Group One winning rider.
Leung had unsuccessfully tried to lure Richard Quinn, Ray Cochrane, whose application was turned down by the HKJC, and Kevin Darley, before finally netting Hughes. Leung said: "I have put forward the name of Richard Hughes as my stable jockey next season. I think we can work in harmony. He's a top rider that comes highly recommended."
Hughes' appointment will leave Mick Channon searching for a new stable jockey,
