Ballaghaderreen Golf Club won the Lonleitros Trophy for only the second time when they beat Co Longford by 153 points to 150 in the final at Boyle over the weekend. The Lonleitros Cup was first played in 1982 between six clubs - Ballaghaderreen, Strokestown, Boyle, Carrick on Shannon, Ballinamore and Co Longford - in the counties Longford, Leitrim and Roscommon.
With the best four cards to count out of the six fourballs, Joe Smyth and Brian Kelly led Ballaghaderreen home with 41 points followed closely by PJ Moran and Kevin Lynch, who returned 40 points. Mark Frain and Jimmy Connellan carded 36 points as did former Manchester United goalkeeper Pat Dunne and the club's honorary secretary, John Cawley. The other members of the winning team were Tony Bambrick, club captain Jimmy Lee, who had 35 points, Declan McGarry and Christy McCann.
