Horgan pounces to make a point

PATRICK HORGAN produced an injury-time equaliser to secure a point for Cork IT in a thrilling Fitzgibbon Cup clash at Mobhi Road, Dublin, yesterday.

Horgan’s long-range free two minutes into injury-time snatched a draw for CIT but they were bitterly disappointed with a second-half display that saw them throw away a 1-12 to 0-6 half-time advantage. DIT may have appeared dead and buried at that stage but they restricted CIT to just two scores in the second half – although the Cork side seemed destined for victory when Lorcan McLoughlan’s point with two minutes left put them four points up.

The Dublin side produced a blistering finish to turn that deficit around. After Peter Kelly pointed, DIT levelled through Harry Keogh’s goal with a minute left before Paul Ryan put them ahead through a free. It was fitting that Horgan would be the CIT hero as he had been the dominant force in the first half. He struck a 13th-minute goal and was denied from two further goal attempts.
