Australian centre Tim Horan was unaware he had won £10,000 for scoring the fastest try of the World Cup, team officials said yesterday
Horan crossed the Romanian line within 92 seconds of the start of Australia's 57-9 win on Sunday and was told of his good fortune yesterday morning.
Sponsors Guinness had said it would offer £10,000 to the first player to cross the try-line quicker than it takes to pour a pint of its black stout - 119.5 seconds. Horan will donate the money to a charity of his choice.
Any player who beats the 119.5 second barrier in the rest of the five-week tournament will win a year's supply of Guinness in cans.
