Waterford IT 2-14 Limerick IT 1-7:CHAMPIONS WATERFORD IT were worthy double-score winners against last year's finalists in a disappointing Fitzgibbon Cup quarter-final at Limerick.
Fintan O’Leary, a member of the striking Cork squad, starred for Waterford and scored four points from play. Waterford were far too crafty for a Limerick side that included Joe Canning and Tipperary’s Seamus Callinan.
Waterford had all the aces starting with goalkeeper Adrian Power who made two superb saves from Callinan. The sides were tied at 0-2 each after seven minutes. But Waterford soon established control and a goal by Timmy Hammersley made it 1-8 to 0-4 at the interval.
Limerick were thrown a lifeline by Kevin Hynes’s goal but within minutes Hammersley had replied with his side’s second goal.
