Rockwell College 20 Castletroy College 3:HOLDERS ROCKWELL College cruised into the semi-finals of the Munster Schools Senior Cup with a 17-point victory over Castletroy College at Clanwilliam yesterday.
Rockwell coped best with the conditions as a driving wind and persistent rain made things difficult for both sides.
Having played against the elements in the first half, Rockwell opened up a 12-3 half-time lead, with outhalf Aidan Moynihan and Alex Lynch both crossing for tries.
Seán Moran kicked Castletroy’s solitary score of the entire game with a 31st-minute penalty and overall, the Limerick boys found themselves consistently pinned back by a more physically-imposing Rockwell team.
The Tipperary outfit ran in a third try in the 49th minute when Cillian Kiely collected a pass from replacement scrumhalf Aidan Barron, who was only on the pitch a matter of seconds before making a decisive contribution. They now face Christian Brothers College Cork in the last four, in what will be a repeat of last year’s semi-final.
