JIMMY HILL has launched a stinging attack on English Professional Footballers' Association chief executive Gordon Taylor claiming that a players' strike would force clubs out of business.

But Hill, a former players' union chief who threatened a players' walk out 35 years ago in the fight to abolish the maximum wage, says in the new Match of the Day magazine that Nationwide League players are now "wrong, wrong, wrong in contemplating a strike."

Hill said the PFA reasoning for the action, namely the loss of the 10 per cent of all television fees, is ill founded with many Nationwide clubs already "in danger of sinking".

He explained: "In the light of that, Taylor's protestation to a media gathering that football had never been more prosperous was gobbledegook".
