JOE CANNY produced the highest break of this year's World Amateur Championship in New Zealand yesterday when he had a clearance of 137 in the second frame of his match against Fiji's John Lum.
Further breaks of 86, 56 and 72 sealed a 4-0 victory for the Kildare man who then went on to beat Sri Lanka's Saleem Naufer by the same score in his evening match. The victories maintain Canny's 100 per cent winning start to the tournament and leaves him on course for a place in the last 16.
Canny is unlikely to be joined by Carlow's Billy O'Neill in the quarter-finals after he lost his fourth group match 4-3 to Thailand's Tin Sam Chong, his third defeat of the Championships.
