Waterford turned the form book on its head at the RSC last night when they scored two goals inside seven minutes against a stunned Cork City.

In the third minute, Derek McGrath got possession 30-yards out from the Cork goal. He jinked past defenders Derek Coughlan and Stephen Napier before beating goalkeeper Noel Mooney. The home cheers had scarcely died away when Waterford struck again. A clever back-heel flick by Karl Gannon found Alan Kirby who steered a powerful shot past Mooney. At half time Cork brought in Patsy Freyne and John Cotter for Stephen Napier and Gerald Dobbs. On 51 minutes, Pat Morley dived full-length to score after Gareth Cronin's shot rebounded off goalkeeper Michael Devine. The equaliser came on 72 minutes when Mark Herrick found the net with a powerful header. The game ended in controversy when City goalkeeper Mooney, was sent off following an altercation with Wood.
