Hermes look to Bourke

HERMES have the making of an upset in their semi final against Muckross in the Leinster Senior Cup at Loughlinstown tomorrow.

Jenny Bourke, arguably one of Ireland's best strikers, will lead the attack on Sandra O'Gorman's goal in an attempt to prise the trophy out of Muckross hands.

"Muckross must be worried about Jenny Bourke due to her prolific scoring," said Joan Morgan, coach of the Hermes team. And indeed they are. Ian Steepe is clearly aware that it is a cup match and anything can happen.

Loreto face Clontarf in the other semi final. Clontarf are the surprise package of the competition. They won their first league match last Saturday, coincidentally also in Loughlinstown.

Clontarf were handicapped earlier in the season as Leinster player Tracy Skoyles was unavailable. Even when she returned, the side never really settled down. This is the first year that they have been in such a dangerously low position in the league since they were promoted to senior A in 1982.

Loreto are second in the league, so it is very difficult to see the in losing in the Cup at this stage. They will need to improve, though, in putting the ball in the net.

Meanwhile Muckross have taken another step to retaining the Leinster Senior League title by beating Glenanne 3-0 on Wednesday. Sarah Kelleher refound her form after a poor show in the interprovincials for Munster by scoring two of the three goals.

The Munster Cup is also at the semi final stage, with Catholic Institute travelling to meet the holders UCC at the Mardyke while Harlequins are hosts to C of I.
