Dubliner cyclist Paul Healion provided further proof of his current good form, in advance of next month's European Under-23 championships, when he won yesterday's Newbridge Credit Union GP.
Healion was part of a five-man Usher IRC group who hauled in lone leader Stephen O'Sullivan early in the race, and was the only rider who answered O'Sullivan's surge at the top of the climb on the fifth lap.
At the finish of the 60-mile race, current national criterium champion Healion jumped clear within sight of the line to eke out a 10-second win over O'Sullivan, with Colm Bracken leading home a trio of riders to take third.
Elsewhere, the Cidona Carrick team pulled off a rare clean sweep when they took the first three places in the Caherconlish road race in Limerick. First home was Adrian Hedderman, five seconds clear of FBD Milk Ras stage-winner Brian Kenneally, with Martin O'Loughlin third.
Further north, Roger Aiken of the Banbridge club overhauled Ireland junior team cyclist John Lacey on the final stage to win the Ras Dun Na Gall event.
