Stenhousemuir's Graeme Armstrong is in the news these days as he nears Tommy Hutchison's record for the number of British senior league appearances by a footballer. Now 43, Armstrong began his career 28 years ago and, if fit, should line out for the 864th time against East Stirling on St Stephen's Day. "I started at the bottom in 1974 and I'm still there," he said last week, in an interview with the Scottish Daily Record. So, why did he never get the chance to play at the highest level during his career? Injuries? Bad luck? Disciplinary problems? Did no one appreciate his talent? Nope, none of these. "I eat like a horse and drink like a fish," he said. Aah, refreshing honesty. Good man Graeme.
