Griffiths takes up coaching

FORMER world champion Terry Griffiths has hung up his cue but could yet make a Crucible comeback

FORMER world champion Terry Griffiths has hung up his cue but could yet make a Crucible comeback. The 48 year old Welshman, who has been at the top for 17 years, made the decision after his second round defeat by Steve Davis at the World Championship in Sheffield two weeks ago. As a result of his elimination, Griffiths dropped out of the elite world top 16 for the first time.

He will now take up a position as the first director of coaching for the World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association.

"I may still play in next year's World Championship," said the Llanelli based star, who would be guaranteed £8,200 simply for turning up. "I've still a few months to make up my mind.

"But now is the right time to give up and I've no regrets. I'd love to carry on playing but don't think my form is good enough."
