LEAGUE OF IRELAND PREMIER DIVISION: Shamrock Rovers 1 Galway Utd 1:A SUPERBLY-TAKEN equaliser from Aaron Greene effectively ended Shamrock Rovers' title bid and kept Galway United's head above the relegation zone.

Galway United, who finished with 10 men, are a point above St Patrick’s Athletic in the relegation play-off zone. If they match the St Patrick’s result against Shamrock Rovers when they host Cork City next week or Sligo Rovers’ against Drogheda United their Premier survival is secured.

Rovers can have few complaints as they wasted several chances early on through Dessie Baker, Stephen Rice and Gary Twigg, but they still went deservedly in front after 44 minutes as Twigg headed home Stephen Bradley’s cross.

Substitute Paddy Kavanagh and Twigg had half-chances in a poor second half, before Greene levelled.

Galway defender Gary Breen, booked for a foul on Twigg in the first half, was sent off on 77 minutes for a foul on Robinson to signal a late Rovers rally. They came within inches of winning it in the 91st minute when Rice turned to shoot off a post.
