A special green jacket was presented to Christy O'Connor Jnr at Lahinch on Saturday evening to mark his winning for the second year in succession the Senior British Open Golf Championship. The presentation was made by the captain, Sean Collins, during the dinner in his honour.
O'Connor, who had with him the 190-year old claret jug trophy, described the winning and the presentation at Lahinch as being "amongst the greatest achievements of my life." He told Jack Nicklaus who had asked him about golf in Ireland, that "Lahinch was the St Andrews of Ireland and some day he should visit it".
