RACING:Aidan O'Brien unveiled a potential Classic star in Kingsbarns at Navan a fortnight ago and Indian Chief could be in the same mould today, writes BRIAN O'CONNOR
The 360,000 guineas purchase is a son of Montjeu and lines up in a mile maiden that in the past has been won by other sons of the late stallion, such as Fame And Glory (2008) and Recital (2010.) Both of those had Group One success as two-year-olds in the Criterium de Saint-Cloud and with Kingsbarns set for this weekend’s Racing Post Trophy there will be a lot of expectation around Indian Chief today. Joseph O’Brien is on board, with Séamus Heffernan on the Galileo colt Great Explorer, while Jim Bolger’s Loch Garman is a son of Teofilo.
Bolger’s juvenile team already boasts Dawn Approach, the Racing Post contender Trading Leather and Leitir Mor. Morga found only Dubaya too good here recently and should be hard to beat in the other juvenile maiden.
Madeira Girl was a disappointing favourite at Cork on Saturday but first-time blinkers could do the trick in the mile handicap and Mamma Rosa, runner-up in Cork, can go one better in the fillies handicap.
