GRAPESHOT captured the last major Derby trial at Goodwood yesterday but did little to shake trainer Luca Cumani's belief that the result of the Epsom Classic is "a foregone conclusion".
His price was cut to 14 to 1 by Coral, 16 to 1 by Ladbrokes and 20 to 1 by William Hill alter he comfortably landed the Predominate Stakes.
Jockey John Reid, on his way to a 70 to 1 treble, only needed to push the colt out to hold off Running Stag by two and a half lengths with Shii Take a length back in third.
But Cumani, who saddled Poteen to finish third behind Entrepreneur and Revoque in the 2000 Guineas, remains pessimistic about his chances of success at Epsom.
"I think the horse stayed a mile and a quarter and I think he will get a mile and a half. But I think the Derby is a foregone conclusion. It's a two-horse race with Entrepreneur in front and Revoque chasing him."
