The excitement was matched only by the weather when Co Louth were deprived of winning the ILGU Easter District Senior Cup for the fourth year in a row at St Margaret's last week - losing 3-2 to the Grange at the first tie hole in the final.
Mary Gorry, Therese O'Reilly and Sheena O'Brien Kenney, who all played their parts in Grange senior cup victories in 1985, 1986, 1992 and 1993 were again central to the victory. Three down with three to play Gorry snatched a win on the 16th after getting up and down from a greenside bunker and took the match down the 18th when her opponent Jackie Quinn missed a putt for the match on 17. However, with Quinn down in five at the last it was left to the former international Gorry to hole from 18 feet to take the match into tie holes.
On the first tie hole Gorry was through the green in two with Quinn short in three after being blocked out from her drive. Quinn got up and down leaving Gorry with a five footer for the match which she negotiated with great confidence to take Grange to the All-Ireland finals at Douglas in September.
