Steffi Graf has entered next month's US Open less than a week after announcing she had played her last Wimbledon.
The five-time Flushing Meadow champion was included in a list of names submitted by the WTA Tour to the United States Tennis Association.
The tournament, which starts on August 30th, could be Graf's final Grand Slam event.
Tournament director Jay Snyder said: "Steffi has been one of the favourites at the US Open throughout her career. We are excited that she has decided to return for at least one more run."
Graf (3)0, won the French Open championship over Martina Hingis and then announced she would no longer compete in the clay court tournament.
Four weeks later, she lost to American Lindsay Davenport in the final at Wimbledon and said it was her last match at the All England Club.
