A SUPERB try, which saw full back Andrew Walsh run 65 metres before touching down under the posts midway through the second half, was the highlight of this tie at Lakelands as Gonzaga saw off the challenge of High School.
Indeed, Walsh was the real difference between two evenly matched teams.
But all Gonzaga had to show for their early domination was a penalty from Brian McCloskey.
A tactical switch at half time saw Graham Fleming come on for Paul Kirwan, and his presence brought a measure of parity to the packs. But a break downfield by Walsh brought play deep into the losers 22, and with Diarmuid Ryan exerting his line out superiority, Richard Meagher charged through, with McCloskey converting.
Richard Thompson reduced the arrears again, before Walsh set off on his breathtaking run, which Stephen Pinkster converted. High School did try bravely to force their way over and were finally rewarded when Ross McNally burrowed his way through.
