Jack Hume sits one shot off the lead at British Amateur Championship

Naas Golf Club's Jack Hume has carded the second best round of the day so far at the British Amateur Championship in Scotland to sit one shot behind strokeply qualifying leaders Grant Forrest and Ryan Chisnall.

Hume fired an eventful four under par 68 at Carnoustie, which included three bogeys, five birdies and an eagle.

The highly prestigious amateur event, which boasts former winners such as Sergio Garcia, Michael Hoey and Matteo Manassero, is being played at Carnoutsie and Panmure with strokeplay qualifying taking place today and tomorrow before the top 64 players advance to matchplay stages on Wednesday.

The winner of the event will receive a place at next month's Open Championship in St Andrews, as well as spot of next year's US Open.

Forrest and Chisnell currently sit atop the leaderboard, one shot ahead of Hume, who is on his own in second place.

Forrest carded at 67 at Carnoustie earlier while Chisnall is also five under par after 15 holes at the same course.

The next best-placed Irish player is John-Ross Galbraith of Whitehead who has raced to two under par after just three holes.
