ONYOUROWN can make a winning start to a potentially profitable jumping career in the Henderson Insurance Brokers Ltd. Juvenile Novices' Hurdle at Wetherby today.
The three year old is a very interesting sort to be sent over the sticks, having shown very useful form in winning three times on the Flat in Ireland for Paddy Burke.
And he is bred to excel at the winter game, as a half brother to useful hurdlers Penny A Day and Direct Route from the family of top class stayer Galmoy.
Direct Route's trainer Howard Johnson will have been delighted to take charge of Onyourown, having already won six races with his very promising elder relation.
He will doubtless be expecting big things from his new recruit and has found an ideal opportunity for him to make a successful start over jumps.
Dashing front runner Clay County will take some catching in the Sebel House Group Chase, particularly as each of his four rivals is either out of form or returning from a lengthy lay off.
Rocky Park can gain his first win in nearly two years in the Claude Whitley Memorial Challenge Cup Handicap Chase at Newton Abbot.
The gelding looked a future chasing star when he took a novice event at Worcester in November, 1994, comfortably accounting for useful hurdler Zamitrah and future Cheltenham Festival winner Front Line.
But problems with his jumping and fitness have let him down since.
His technique at the fences handicapped him during the rest of 1994/5, notably in the valuable Bet With The Tote Novices' Chase Final at Chepstow, which he would have gone close to winning but for a bad mistake two out.
And he subsequently developed a problem which meant he missed the whole of last season.
But Toby Balding has patiently nursed him back to health and looks set to gain his reward.
Rocky Park left the strong impression his problems were behind him on his reappearance over course and distance a fortnight ago when he was weak in the betting and looked very much in need of the outing.
Getting around in one piece seemed to be the main objective and Balding will have been delighted with the 10 year old's fluent jumping.
He closed on winner Bond Jnr from the fifth last fence until he tired in the straight and had to settle for second.
