Men's Hockey:GLENANNE AND Three Rock Rovers produced outstanding comebacks from 2-0 down to advance to the semi-finals of the Irish Senior Cup, beating Corinthian and Lisnagarvey, respectively.
The Glens left it late, Gary Shaw's hat-trick turning the tide. He scored twice in the last two minutes at St Mark's on Saturday to eventually earn a 4-2 victory.
Venezuelan international Lucas Piccioli put Corinthian ahead with goals in the 18th and 49th minute. Shaw pulled one back and Mick McGuinness levelled matters with a quarter of an hour remaining. With extra-time looming, Graham Shaw found an exquisite through-pass to Shaw to hand Glenanne the lead for the first time with little less than 100 seconds remaining.
He added another on the final hooter to keep hopes alive of a third Irish Senior Cup crown and a guaranteed return visit to the EuroHockey League.
Three Rock's comeback was completed in much quicker time as they recovered from their 2-0 deficit at Grange Road against Lisnagarvey by half-time.
It was Lisnagarvey who raced into the lead when Timmy Cockram scrambled in from close range before Mark Robinson beautifully rebounded in mid-air after Stephen West blocked a Cockram drag-flick. But that was the last time the excellent West was to be beaten as he kept out a string of short corners.
Rovers got a lifeline when Ross Canning touched in a crash ball in the 20th minute. The hosts rallied and struck twice more in five minutes through Pierre de Voux and Sven Galjaardt to turn the game on its head by half-time. No further goals meant they held on for a 3-2 win and will now host Glenanne in the semi-finals.
Monkstown beat Kilkeel 5-4 at Rathdown. The Town looked comfortable at 5-2 in the closing quarter only to ship twice but they held out. Annadale will fly the lone Northern flag after Ian Hamilton's double disposed of Banbridge. He netted two corners and they kept Bann at bay, bar Dermy Reay's second-half strike. They will travel to Rathdown to face Monkstown.
