THE Dermot Weld trained JJ Baboo was unfancied when making his debut in a three year old maiden at Leopardstown recently but ran a respectable race to finish sixth behind Peace Offering. He will be expected to do much better in today's Claremorris Maiden at Ballinrobe which as usual stages the first of the season meetings west of the Shannon.

Preference is for the Kevin Prendergast trained Genuine John, who stayed on well to finish just over three and a half lengths third behind Proud Titania and Tikashar in the Madrid Handicap at The Curragh.

Willie Mullins has prospects of a double with Betterbebob in the Corrib Maiden Hurdle and Three Scholars in the River Robe Flat Race. The former was out of his depth behind Castlekellyleader at Punchestown following a three length second behind stable companion Malacca Kin at Clonmel. Three Scholars, a five length runner up to Blazing Imperial at Naas looks to have an even better opportunity in the bumper.

Trainer& Tony Carroll was fined £500 and jockey Richard Davis banned for five days under the non triers rule at Worcester yesterday. The pair were hauled before the stewards concerning the running and riding of new comer South West Express, who, finished 11th, beaten 24 lengths by Litening Conductor in division two of the Worcester Standard Open National Hunt Flat Race.
