The Garda came out on top when the Spawell Dublin United Golf Societies Association Challenge Cup was completed at St Margaret's last week. The Millennium winners scored 211 1/2 in difficult weather conditions. The runners-up were Eircom Engineers with 222 1/2 and Semperit were third on 228. Nerosport were next on 228 1/2 followed by the Wednesdays on 229 1/2 and Seventy Seven on 230.
Over 480 players from 80 societies took part. Two holes in one were recorded over the three days of qualifying and the final. John Crowley from the Bank of Ireland aced the par three fifth while David Singleton from the Home Farm Society holed out his tee shot at the 15th.
