GARBALLY COLLEGE, Ballinasloe once again proved the masters when they won this Connacht Schools' Senior Cup replay at the Galway sports ground yesterday.
Garbally took the lead after 10 minutes when out half Alan King was on target with a penalty 20 metres out in front of the posts.
In the 23rd minute Sligo Grammar School out half Karl Gilligan was successful with a penalty from just inside the `22' to make it 3-3.
The vital period in the match was between the 29th and 32nd minutes, when the victors scored two tries. The first came from tight head prop Garrett Loughlin, and Colm Dermody converted. The second involved a sweet back line move which was initiated by Alan King and finished with full back Fergal O'Rourke touching down for a try, to leave the score at the interval 15-3 in favour of Garbally.
Sligo were successful with a penalty in the 66th minute when Gilligan was on target from 15 metres out in front of the post. which reduced the gap to 15-6 at the final whistle.
