The deserved win by the visiting side, UCD, ensured that Galway United suffered further torment in their bid to avoid relegation from the League of Ireland Premier Division at Teryland Park on Saturday night. This, their ninth loss in a row, occurred despite the efforts of their new-signing Donal Flynn, who came from Mansfield Town, when he came into the fray with 10 minutes remaining.
Both goals came in the first nine minutes of play from well-taken free kicks. UCD captain Packie Lynch's cross from the right was met accurately after five minutes by centre-half Anthony McDonnell. And Lynch was once again the supplier four minutes later when Michael O'Byrne volleyed to the net from close range.
