A goal three minutes into extra time from Fergal Coleman earned Galway United a place in the semi-finals of this season's League Cup after this pulsating encounter with Derry City at Terryland Park last night.

It took only nine minutes for the opening goal when Derry City's Brian Coyle played a one-two Sean Hargan before drilling the ball past Gabriel Higgins from 12 yards.

Galway were level within a minute when Derry's Richie Purdy back-headed the ball into his own net. The visitors went in front after 35 minutes when Sean Horgan scored from three yards yards, before Galway again equalised within a minute when Conor Killeen scored.

The winner came in the 93rd minute when Coleman steered the ball home.
