All-Ireland MHC Quarter-finals: Galway 3-13, Wexford 1-11 Having denied Kilkenny three All-Ireland titles in a row last year, Galway minor hurlers are through to a semi-final meeting with Cork after a convincing victory over Wexford at Portlaoise on Saturday.
Keith Burke scored a goal and three points from placed balls for the beaten Leinster finalists in the opening quarter.
The reigning All-Ireland champions settled down and points from Seán Glynn and Kevin Coen and a Conor Kavanagh goal had the sides level after 18 minutes. Alan Callinan added two further points and one each from Coen and Joe Canning saw the Connacht side lead 1-7 to 1-4 at the interval.
Within a minute of the resumption Canning stretched the Galway lead. Brian Murphy added another but in the next 10 minutes Wexford responded with four points to leave just two between the sides with 15 minutes to play. The score remained the same for five minutes when Galway's Canning scored a smashing goal from 30 metres.
Wexford responded with a PJ Nolan point but within two minutes Kavanagh's second goal ended the game as a contest.
