A superb goal on time by Derek O'Brien from all of 35 yards failed to give Galway United any points from this Terryland Park Premier Division tie against Cork City who finished with 10 men.

The visitors took the lead after 15 minutes when their Cork's promising 18 years old Colin P O'Brien scored his second league goal of his brief career. O'Brien had scored against Shelbourne and on this night he powerfully headed home from six yards past the bemused United goalkeeper Mark Cobey.

United pressed hard for the remainder of the first half for an equaliser and one of their best chances came after 29 minutes through Ollie Keogh downward drive from 20 yards went narrowly wide at the far post.

True drama occured early on in the second half when on 54 minutes Cork City's sprightly 36 year old Pat Morley was sent to the line for a illegally up-ending Daragh Sheridan. Victory was secured by the Leesiders when an 89th minute goal came from Conor O'Grady.
