Wexford Youths 4 Derry City 1: DANNY FURLONG grabbed a superb hat-trick to help rekindle lowly Wexford Youths season as the home side shocked Derry City last night at Ferrycarrig Park to move into the fourth round of the FAI Ford Cup. Wexford took a shock 31st minute lead when Kevin Rowe played a delightful ball through for striker Furlong to cooly fire past goalkeeper Gerard Doherty. And Derry City were further rocked two minutes into additional time before the break as Barry Molloy was adjudged to have taken down Dean Broaders, leaving Furlong to slot home the penalty for a 2-0 interval lead.
Wexford struck for their third goal after 70 minutes. Darragh Walshe’s shot took a deflection into the top left-hand corner of the net and Furlong completed his hat-trick with another cool finish before substitute Eamon Zayed grabbed shell-shocked Derry’s only goal in additional time before the final whistle.
