Frankie Dettori made it a hat-trick in the race to be Royal Ascot's leading rider. Dettori and arch-rival Michael Kinane both scored a single on the final day yesterday to end the meeting with four successes, but the Italian took the London Clubs Trophy by having superior placed mounts. However, matters might have been different had not the Irishman suffered triple misfortune at the start.
Silver Rhapsody, his mount in the Hardwicke Stakes, refused to enter the stalls as did Rossini, the hot favourite for the Windsor Castle Stakes. The well-fancied Lavery had to be withdrawn from the King's Stand Stakes after playing up at the start.
