A dramatic injury time goal gave UUJ victory in this year's Collingwood Cup as they defeated Trinity College 2-1 in the final at Terryland Park yesterday.

UUJ dominated proceedings early on forcing two corners alone in the first five minutes of the match. Their opening goal came on 21 minutes when Paul Taylor headed to the inrushing Pat Cavanagh, who headed to the net past John Dixon.

Trinity improved after the interval and this was rewarded with an equaliser after 82 minutes when Paddy McGuire dribbled past a few defenders before lobbing the ball over goalkeeper Stewart Cosby. The winner came when UUJ won a corner which was met perfectly by Barry Forshaw.

UCG managed to take the Collingwood Plate when they defeated Maynooth 2-0 yesterday. The opening goal came after 17 minutes from Shane O'Loughlin when he finished off a through ball from Conor Killeen. UCG went 2-0 ahead on 42 minutes when a Garrett Beatty corner on the right was met by Killeen who shot to the net from close range.
