UUJ 3-5 GMIT 0-9: For most of the game UUJ seemed to be coasting to victory over GMIT in Jordanstown yesterday and yet it took a goal by substitute Paul Forker deep into injury time to finish off the western side who had cut the margin to just two points.
With towering skipper Philip Loughran calling the shots at midfield, the home side swept into a 1-2 to 0-2 lead after 20 minutes when Mal Mackin hit the visitors' net.
UUJ led by 1-4 to 0-2 at half-time and had increased that to 2-5 to 0-3 12 minutes into the second half with Gavin Donaghy crashing home their second goal.
However, the action changed dramatically when GMIT moved Nicky Joyce moved to the forty. He hit five points and Aidan Kilcoyne added another to reduce UUJ's lead to two points. Two of Joyce's points came in injury time as referee Seamus McCormack added on five minutes. But Forker's goal ended the comeback and earned UUJ a quarter-final against Dundalk IT.
