Clyde Wijnhard scored twice to sentence Nottingham Forest to their first league defeat of the season at the City Ground and keep Huddersfield's Division One promotion challenge on course.

The Dutch striker hit a sweet curling shot into the top corner in the first half and then slotted in a simple shot after Forest defender Steve Chettle's pass across the box ricocheted into his path.

Kevin Gray was also on the mark for Huddersfield, who are a point behind Charlton in third place after their 3-1 victory. Alan Rogers scored Forest's goal, but on-loan striker Mikkel Beck spurned several good opportunities in his first game for the club.

West Brom at long last recorded their first home win of the season with a 3-2 success over Portsmouth at The Hawthorns.

QPR's good form came crashing to an end with a 3-0 defeat at London rivals Crystal Palace. Leon McKenzie opened the scoring with a first-minute header, and Rangers were seething when Matt Svensson scored the second goal with 15 minutes remaining despite looking offside.

The controversial goal seemed to unhinge Gerry Francis' men, who then had Chris Kiwomya and Karl Ready sent off in the remainder of the game. Hayden Mullins completed the scoring from the penalty spot.

Republic of Ireland midfielder Gareth Farrelly, on loan from Everton, opened the scoring for Bolton in the second minute on their way to a 2-1 win at Sheffield United. Marcus Bent equalised, but Bolton left Bramall Lane with all three points thanks to Bo Hansen's winner. Only 10,000 turned up for the game and angry United fans demonstrated after the game over the sale of their top players.
