BELVEDERE COLLEGE made their initial breakthrough at soccer when they captured the under 18 Metropolitan Division One League title with a shock defeat of favourites St Aidan's CS, at Kilternan yesterday.

St Aidan's, with two schoolboy internationals in their line up, were always chasing the game after Belvedere's man of the match Adrian Whelan put his side in front after just nine minutes.

While St Aidan's equalised through a Jason Byrne header shortly after half time, Belvedere seized back the initiative within 60 seconds when Whelan again showed his opportunism with his second goal Ian Fitzpatrick scored Belvedere's third from the spot.
