Scott Hoch chipped in a 40-foot eagle putt on the final hole to overtake defending champion Loren Roberts and David Sutherland and snatch a one-stroke victory at the $1.3 million Greater Milwaukee Open. Hoch and Sutherland entered the par 5, 557-yard 18th hole one stroke behind Roberts, who was already in the clubhouse at 15under-par 269. But Hoch made the green in two and on his next shot, used a five iron for the eagle and the victory. Sutherland, who also made the green in two, missed his eagle attempt.
Hoch claimed his first PGA Tour victory of the year, the eighth of his career and second at this event, also winning in 1995. Hoch, a member of the United States Ryder Cup team, picked up a first prize check of $234,000.
Hoch fired a final-round fiveunder 66 to finish 16-under. Sutherland carded a 69, while Roberts recorded his fourth straight round under 70 with a 66.
