JOE FENLON of the Morrissey's team in Carlow leads going into the final stage of the Eagle club's three day race at Dunboyne today. Fenlon has an advantage of 22 seconds over Michael Doyle with Emmett Hogan at 41 seconds.
At the end of stage one of 68 miles on Saturday a group of five were four seconds ahead of three others with the main pack at 46 seconds and Paul Coen of Dublin Wheelers won from Robert Looby with Fenlon third.
Yesterday morning Fenlon was fastest in the 2.8 miles time trial, his time of five minutes and 44 seconds was nine seconds better than Paul Helion and Fenlon took over the lead by 15 seconds from Mick Wall. Coen slipped to eighth at 38 seconds.
The afternoon stage three of 63 miles went to David McQuaid. A breakaway group of six were 45 seconds clear and McQuaid led the way across the line with Len Corrigan second.
