Brad Faxon, A PGA veteran, would have preferred to be in Scotland for the British Open, but eased his disappointment in Endicott, New York by successfully defending his title at the $2 million BC Open.

Faxon fired a four-under par 68 final round to post a one-shot victory over Esteban Toledo, denying the Mexican his first US PGA title. Toledo began the day level with Faxon for the lead after leading the first two rounds.

The 38-year-old American's winning total of 18-under 270 produced a seventh career victory. Faxon took home a first-place cheque of $360,000, the smallest on tour. Faxon did not arrive at the event until Wednesday after failing to qualify for the British Open.

After opening a three-shot lead, Faxon struggled down the stretch, playing the last six holes at oneover. But he clinched victory with a par on the 18th hole after Toledo pulled within a stroke with a birdie at the par-three 17th.

The runner-up finish was still Toledo's best in 130 PGA events. He had missed his previous two cuts, six of eight and 12 of 23 this year.
