Vinnie Murray Cup semi-final/Gonzaga College - 6 St Columba's College - 6:THE IRELAND Under-19 player Ian McKinley forced this Powerade Leinster Schools Section B semi-final to a replay with a 56th-minute penalty at Anglesea Road yesterday.

It was not exactly an advertisement for the mid-ranking competition; both schools seemed to be suffering a hangover from recent efforts in the Premier Senior Cup.

Still, given the quality they boast in backrowers Dominic Ryan and Dan Kane, scrumhalf John Cooney and wing Neil Hanratty, Gonzaga would have been favoured to make it through to meet the winners of today's semi-final between Cistercian Roscrea and St Gerard's School.

That looked likely when hooker Nick Rutledge and left wing Daniel McEvoy stood out as Zaga made the early running and centre William McEvoy struck two penalties for a 6-3 lead at the interval.

St Columba's struggled for the territory McKinley could turn into points until he posted the equaliser at the end of the third quarter.

It was a fair reward for the efforts of scrumhalf Chris Lilly and loose forwards Sam Stephens and Lewis Matthews.
