The monthly medal at Blainroe last weekend turned into a family affair

The monthly medal at Blainroe last weekend turned into a family affair. The Hayes father and son combination took the first two places with son Leo shooting a 65 off a three-handicap to beat his father, Gerry, who plays off eight, by one shot.

Cyril Williams was in the winners' enclosure twice at Courtown. He won the midweek turkey with 27 points and then finished third to Tom Meyler in the 13 holes singles.

Also recording success on the double was Mairead Courtney at Beaufort when finishing first for the second week running. Mairead won the 18 holes singles with 34 points from Margaret O'Sullivan and followed that with 18 points in the nine holes to win from Ann Rountree.

Eddie Roche also figured twice at Skerries. The 15 handicapper was second to Liam O'Neill in the singles but went one better in the fourball with partner Cecil Keaveney when shooting 33 points. John McConnell had a hole in one at the seventh.
