KIEREN FALLON'S trip to Italy paid off yesterday when he won the chance to team up with odds-on favourite Reams of Verse in Friday's Epsom Oaks. Henry Cecil's stable jockey will return to Rome later in the year to appeal against a 10-day riding ban he received after last month's Italian Derby.

But Fallon succeeded yesterday in his initial target of getting the suspension deferred so that it will now start on June 22nd not today as originally scheduled.

That means he will be free to ride Reams of Verse in the Oaks and Symonds Inn in the Derby. And it also allows him to ride at Royal Ascot where he is due to partner 1,000 Guineas winner Sleepytime in the Coronation Stakes. However, he may still miss the Irish Derby on June 29th.

Fallon incurred his ban in the Italian Derby eight days ago. He was found guilty of an illegal manoeuvre on Musical Dancer who was adjudged to have hampered local hope Risiat.
