Kieren fallon came up trumps at Lingfield yesterday when he recorded a 154-1 five-timer on Leading Role, Travelling Lite, Iftiraas, One Dinar and Pulau Pinang.
However, he also had the embarrassment of being run away with on the way to the start before the Tote Credit Club Stakes. Milton Bradley's Lucky Archer took a strong hold on the way down and Fallon could not hold the gelding. The partnership did two circuits of the round course before being withdrawn.
Fallon's win on Leading Role for Sir Michael Stoute came after 18 losing rides for his prospective new employer. The victory also ended 37 runners in 20 days without a winner for the trainer.
Leading Role hit the front over a furlong out in the EBF Golf Packages This Winter Maiden Fillies' Stakes and beat 7-4 favourite Ghuffran by three and a half lengths.
Trainer Peter Calver, due to retire at the season's end, can sign off with a major handicap success by saddling Perryston View to win the Tote Trifecta Portland (Showcase Handicap) on the opening day of Doncaster's St Leger meeting today.
Lightly raced this season, Perryston View looked likely to gain his second success of the year over six furlongs at Ripon last month, but after putting daylight between himself and his rivals just failed to last home.
