AN ORIGINALLY downbeat outlook for tomorrow's triple Grade One card at Fairyhouse going ahead changed yesterday evening with the track authorities now "optimistic" that racing can get the green light, writes
BRIAN O'CONNOR.
Fears that the course might still be waterlogged, especially after a heavy frost on Sunday night, vanished yesterday evening.
“There is one spot on the chase track but we hope to get the water away from that. The hurdles course is fine with no water lying on it. If the forecast is correct, and they are telling us to expect 5-6mms of rain throughout Tuesday, then I would say we will be fine,” Fairyhouse’s manager Caroline Gray said.
As a result, no inspection is planned for today and hopes are rising that the card, postponed from Sunday, can go ahead. Fresh declarations will have to be made this morning but the heavy Royal Bond favourite Dunguib remains an intended starter while last year’s winner, Catch Me, remains an ante-post favourite for the Hatton’s Grace Hurdle.
