ARSENE WENGER has reassured Cesc Fabregas he will resolve his future, according to the Spanish midfielder.
Fabregas confirmed he had a long and positive conversation with Wenger about his possible move to Barcelona last week – and that any deal is now in the Arsenal manager’s hands. He refused to give any guarantees he would stay at the Emirates.
For their part, Barcelona have admitted they have contacted Arsenal to inform them of their intentions but they have not yet made a formal bid.
Sources at Barcelona had been bullish about their chances of completing the signing of the 23-year-old before the Spain squad met on Monday, having agreed the basis of a deal with the player.
They felt Fabregas’s meeting with Wenger would clear the way for the signing. However, Barcelona have encountered greater resistance than they expected from Arsenal.
Barcelona president Joan Laporta will leave the club presidency on June 30th and is determined to push hard for completion of the deal by then. Sandro Rosell, the current favourite to win the presidential elections, is also keen.
“I had a long conversation with Arsene, it was probably the greatest [longest] conversation I had with someone in my life,” said Fabregas. “He told me to concentrate on my football, he told me to concentrate on the World Cup, and he told me to leave it in his hands: [that] he will deal with whatever happens in my future.”
